Brewer/Chapman Surfboards represents one of the most legendary design collaborations and lineages in surfing history, blending the precise hydrodynamics of pioneering master shaper Dick Brewer with the fearless big-wave expertise and raw style of his standout protégé, Craig "Owl" Chapman.

The History & Lineage

The Brewer Mentorship: In the late 1960s and 1970s, Dick Brewer (often considered the architect of modern surfboard rockers and rails) mentored a core group of iconic surfer-shapers. Owl Chapman became one of his closest disciples, learning to hand-shape heavy big-wave weapons capable of taming massive Hawaiian surf.

The Chapman Brothers: While Owl garnered much of the spotlight for his rockstar bravado and heavy-water charging, his brother Gary Chapman was equally integral. Gary was among the first to downsize his surfboards in the mid-1960s, using Brewer's early "Pipeliner" designs to push deep into the tube at Ala Moana and Pipeline.

The Jack Reeves Connection: Authentic vintage and modern replica Brewer/Chapman boards are frequently distinguished by the immaculate glass work of the late North Shore master artisan Jack Reeves. A board displaying both the Brewer/Chapman laminates and the JR logo is considered the gold standard of Hawaiian surfboard craftsmanship.
